Thomas "Tom" Carlton Coxwell, 85, a resident of Dothan passed away Friday July 1, 2016 at Wesley Manor.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday, July 3, 2016 at First Freewill Baptist Church of Dothan with Rev. Steve Trail and Rev. Dave Franks, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm until service time on Sunday at the church.
Rev. Coxwell was born on October 25, 1930 in Blountstown, Florida and lived the early years of his life in Tallahassee, FL. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the US Marines. Rev. Coxwell married his "Sweet Betty" on May 29, 1954. He attended Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, TN. Rev. Coxwell was the Pastor of Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church for over 20 years before his retirement in 2012. He was the owner of Coxwell Body Shop in Slocomb, Alabama. Rev. Coxwell was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church.
Rev. Coxwell was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Eugene Coxwell and Maggie Mae Kelly, his siblings, Raymond Coxwell, Wilson Coxwell, Lincoln Coxwell, Amos Coxwell, Millard Larramore, Leomie Harrell, Wyomie Attaway, Wonita Ivey, Usona Register, Violla Mae Williams, Bessie Lee Bailey, and Myrtle Coxwell.
Survivors include his wife Betty Jean Watford Coxwell, Dothan; his son, Thomas Gary (Terrie) Coxwell, Abbeville; his daughters, Sylvia J. (Jim) Martin, Canandaigua, NY, Rebecca Lynn (Dave, Jr.) Franks, Mt. Olive, AL, and Alicia Renee (Stephen) Weed, Dothan; his grandchildren, Steven Dell (Serena) Martin, Rachel Leanne (Nathan) Atwell, Elisabeth Anna (Darrin) Hargrove, Nathan Robert (Alyssa) Franks, Kailey Annette (Kyle) Johnson, Celeste Grace Franks, Kacey Renee Weed, and Klara Beth Weed; his great-grandchildren, Tyler Andrew Martin, Trey Steven Martin, Toby Luke Martin, Katelyn Dawn Martin, William Alexander Atwell, and Lydia Ann Atwell; his brother, Benjamin Eugene Coxwell, Jr.; and his sister, Beulah Smith; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Serving as active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Steven Dell Martin, Nathan Robert Franks, Darrin Hargrove, Kyle Johnson, and Tyler Martin. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Pastors in the Free Will Baptist Association.
