Tom Gathings of Dothan died on April 17, 2018, at SE Alabama Medical Center from complications of surgery. He was 75.
He called North Carolina home but moved to Dothan, his wife’s hometown, in 2009. He came late to the party celebrating the life, death and resurrection of Christ but he did come, and as he grew older, he became stronger and stronger in his faith. He was very active in his church, First Christian, and credited the spiritual love of that congregation for helping him grow in his faith in the Lord.
He is survived by his wife, formerly Cheryl Reeves, his three children and their families, Cheryl’s four children and their families, and his brother and his family. He was especially fond of Cheryl’s sister, Martha Morris Wilson and her husband Clark of Nixa, MO; and Cheryl’s cousin, Dianne Riley of Enterprise.
The funeral service will be on April 21, 2018 at 11:00 am at the First Christian Church on N. Cherokee Ave. with Reverend Clark Cornelius presiding. The family will receive guests from 10:00 am until 10:45 am prior to the service in fellowship hall of the church. The burial will follow in Dothan City Cemetery with Kendall Glover directing.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Keel, Roy Moulton, Craig Smith, Kevin Smith, Craig Snellgrove, and Jack McBroom.
Tom has requested that guests wear casual clothes and would like it to be a festive occasion. No flowers please. Instead consider making a contribution to a charity of your choice.
Glover Funeral Home of Dothan has been entrusted with the arrangements. (334) 699-3888. Please sign the guestbook on line at www.gloverfuneral.com.
