TOMMIE  LOU  SUMPTION


 


DOTHAN. . . Tommie Lou Helms Sumption, a resident of Dothan, Alabama died Wednesday night, March 21, 2012, in the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.  She was 83.



            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, March 25, 2012 in the Texasville United Methodist Church, Texasville, Alabama with Reverend Winston Jay officiating. Burial will follow in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery, near Texasville. Holman-Headland Mortuary, Headland, Alabama is in charge of arrangements.  The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:30 P.M. Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the mortuary in Headland.



            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Texasville United Methodist Church, 3782 Highway 131, Clayton, Alabama 36016.



            Mrs. Sumption was born and reared near Texasville, in Barbour County Alabama, daughter of the late Codie A. Helms and Fannie Lou Norton Helms.  She was a 1947 graduate of Blue Springs High School. Mrs. Sumption lived in various locations in the U. S., overseas and Orange Park, Florida before moving to Dothan in 1988.  She was a member of the Texasville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Sumption was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, (Sgt. Major, U. S. Army Retired) George Sidney Sumption, who was a native of Belmont, Ohio; two sisters, Mildred Helms and Ruby Helms and a brother, Norman Helms.



            Surviving relatives include two sons, William S. Sumption, Clarkesville, Georgia; and Richard H. Sumption, Virginia Beach, Virginia; a sister, Betty Rae Marnon and husband, (Colonel, U. S. Army Retired) Donald Marnon, Dothan; two brothers, Ralph Helms and wife, Ludie, Cody Helms and wife, Gloria, all of Clayton, AL; nieces and nephews from the Helms family, Glenda, Phyllis, Anthony, Margie, Jane, Randy, David, Cody, John, Sandra, Donna and Paul; and from the Sumption family, Alan Aldinger and David Aldinger.
