Ray Alley, Sr., 78 a resident of Newton, passed away Sunday June 14, 2015 at his home.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Bay Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Cox and Rev. Teddy Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Bay Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Bay Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 1721 S. Bay Springs Road, Dothan, AL, 36305.
Mr. Alley was born March 14, 1937 in Taylor, Alabama and moved to Wicksburg at an early age and was a 1955 graduate of Wicksburg High School. He joined the U.S. Navy following high school and served for several years. After his military service he was employed in numerous technical positions from lineman to central office technician within the GTE and Verizon telephone companies until his retirement in 1992. He was an avid fisherman and a member of Bay Springs Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlton and Mattie Lou Alley; a sister Annie Grace Alley; brothers, Jimmy Alley and Bill Alley; a grandson Shawn Jones.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years Madge Petty Alley; his sons, Tommy R. (Paula) Alley, Jr. and Scott Alley; his daughter Elaine Alley (Dennis) Jones; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Jeanette Parker, Carolyn (Jackie) Brown, Mary (Joseph) Cook, and Sara Smith; several nieces and nephews.
