TRYCE DOW SPENCER
FT. GAINES, GEORGIA. . .Tryce Dow Spencer, a resident of Ft Gaines, Georgia, died early Monday morning, June 17, 2013, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility in Abbeville. He was 86.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. (C.D.T.) Wednesday, June 19, 2013, in the Judson Baptist Church with Reverend Gerald Ross officiating and a eulogy to be given by a brother, James Donal Spencer. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary.
At other times, the family will be at the home of a grandson, Brandon Turner, 210 West Washington Street, Abbeville.
Mr. Spencer was a native of Itawamba County, Mississippi, near Fulton, son of the late Elmer Lawrence Spencer, Sr. and Ouida Bell Russell Spencer. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Spencer formerly lived in Tuscaloosa before moving to Ft. Gaines in 1963. He was a member of the Judson Baptist Church. Mr. Spencer was retired as Lockmaster at the Walter F. George Lock and Dam in Ft. Gaines. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucile Wilson Spencer, a brother, Elmer Lawrence Spencer, Jr., and a sister, Geneva McCullough.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Susan Cordell (Johnny), Ft. Gaines; a son, Stephen Wayne Spencer (Stephanie), Virginia Beach, VA; two sisters, Nell Wilson (Mack), Kennedy, AL; Betty Barger (Dewey), Cottondale, AL; two brothers, James D. Spencer (Arlett), Maynardsville, TN; Mike Spencer (Irene), Kennedy, AL; four grandchildren, Brandon Turner (Nicci), Jason Turner (Dawn), Blake Spencer (Kim), and Brandi Cordell; several step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
