Tyler Lee Mitchum, age 30, of Geneva, AL, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the Geneva First Baptist Church with Rev. Nathan Carroll officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday beginning at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Geneva First Baptist Church, PO Box 579, Geneva, AL 36340.
Tyler was born in Panama City, FL on May 9, 1985. He was a proud graduate of Geneva High School, Class of 2003, and he participated in many sports, clubs, and drama productions. He lived with his grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. O. D. Mitchum from a very early age. He was a member of Geneva First Baptist Church. Tyler spent his career in the oil industry and was employed by Noble Oil Company, Houston, TX. Tyler was loved by a large group of friends, co-workers and family. His contagious smile and kind spirit always left a lasting impression. Tyler’s passions in life were hunting, cooking, and entertaining friends and family. He was a proud supporter of the University of Alabama and was affectionately known as “Big Bama.”
His mother, Elizabeth Ann Mitchum, his grandfather, Dr. O. D. Mitchum, and his grandmother Doris Regan preceded Tyler in death. His great grandparents, Bonnie Mitchum, Rev. and Mrs. B.A. Lambert; several aunts and uncles, Don and Beverly Williams, June Johnson, Delores Roberts, and P. Lee Ashbury also preceded him in death.
Tyler is survived by his grandmother, Sharon Mitchum, Geneva, AL; uncles, Dr. Dale Mitchum (Cyndi), Geneva, AL, Mark Mitchum, Panama City, FL, Bain Mitchum (Kara), Robertsdale, AL, Todd Wood, (Selina), Albertville, AL; and his aunt, Lisa McGowan (Gary), Dothan, AL. He is also survived and adored by a host of cousins, Wood and Seth McGowan, Natalie, Conner, Cameron and Trent Mitchum, Maggie Wood, Tabitha and Cliff Holter.
Tyler loved all his many friends, especially his life-long buddy, Hagler Ward. Serving as pallbearers are Wood and Seth McGowan, Rob and Michael Moyer, Duck Williams, Steve Williams, and John Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be the Geneva High School Class of 2003.
