Vera Johnson Helms passed away on Friday, October 10, 2014 at the age of 96.




A graveside service will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Memory Hill Cemetery with Brother Bill Dorminy officiating. Ward Wilson Funeral Home will be directing.



 



Vera was born May 8, 1918 in Covington County to James Edward and Celia Wise Johnson.



After the death of Vera’s parents, she went to live with her aunt and uncle Clemmie and Marion Wise. She graduated Waycross High School in 1936.



 



Vera was an active member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She served on the official board of United Methodist Women, Ruth S.S. class and was the last living charter member of the F.L.A.I.R.S. Senior Group organized in 1973.



 



Preceded in death by, her parents, husband Roy L. Helms, sisters Birtie Mae Carnley, Myrter Lee Carnley, Myrtice Helms and great grandson Joshua Parker.



 



Survivors include daughter Patricia (Ray) Massey of Jacksonville, FL, brother Dewey Irvin Johnson of Opp, Al, granddaughters, Tracy (Rick) Pifer of Boone, NC, Blake (Mark) Parker of Dothan, AL, great-grandchildren Jordan Pifer, Jake Pifer, Zack Pifer, Luke Pifer, Rachel Parker, Matthew Parker and Catherine Parker.



 



In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Covenant Hospice at 104 Rock Bridge RD. Dothan, AL. 36303.
