Vera Mae Sikes Castillo, age 79, of Gordon passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014 at her daughter’s residence.
Born May 1, 1935 in Welcome, Florida to the late Thomas and Leona Johns Sikes, Mrs. Castillo was a member of The Southern Belles Red Hat Society. She loved to garden and cook. She was a natural caregiver who took in family member when they were in need. She also loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Castillo was known as “Nana” to local area schoolchildren, especially Ashford Elementary School.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, George Castillo and her two brothers, Curtis Sikes and Grady Sikes.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan (Tommy) Mills, Gordon; her sons, Duane (Cathy) Surrency, Tampa, FL, Robert Wicks, Gordon, Jack Wicks, Gordon, Marcelino Castillo, Gordon; her sisters, Irma Peavey, Tampa, FL and Betty McCauley, Tampa, FL; her brother, Wayne (Rachel) Sikes, Tampa, FL; her grandchildren, Matthew and Thomas Mills, Jack and Craig Wicks, Heather Holt, Brandon and Nathan Castillo, Jennica Barry, Timothy Sellers, Kimberly Lucadonna, Amber and Bradley Surrency; eight great-grandchildren; special family members, Fay McManimon, Holly McManimon, George and Jennie Kelley, and William (Billy) Cecchetti.
Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 4PM, at Gordon Baptist Church with Pastor Coley Holloway officiating.
The family will be accepting flowers or contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice.
