COLUMBIA. . .Victor Thomas Smith, Jr., a resident of Columbia, died early Sunday morning, January 7, 2024. He was 94.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 11, 2024, in the Camp Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Joel Laseter and Reverend Jeff Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. Visitation with family and friends will be from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Thursday in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Camp Springs Baptist Cemetery Fund, c/o Sharon Elliott, 13205 County Road 53, Columbia, AL 36319 or the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, 325 Ross Clark Circle, Dothan, AL 36303.
Victor Smith was born in Gardner, Wisconsin, son of the late Victor Thomas Smith, Sr. and Hannah Elizabeth Jabs Smith. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Victor lived in Port St. Joe, FL, Panama City, FL and Dothan before moving to the Camp Springs community of Henry County in 1964. He was a member of Camp Springs Baptist Church. Victor was formerly employed by Slocomb Oil Company in Headland and Houston Propane. He was preceded in death by his wife, Illa Hasty Smith and all his sisters and brothers.
Surviving is a special friend and caregiver, Deborah Larsen, and her son, Tyler Larsen, who Victor thought of as a special grandson, and a special friend, Sheila Oakley; numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Joe Hall, Glen Smith, Brad Knighton, Tyler Larsen, Braxton Elliott and Mike Arnold.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Gentiva Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Smith during his illness.
