GRIMES. . .Virgie Raley Adkins, a resident of Grimes, died early Sunday night, on her birthday, December 27, 2015, in Westside Terrace. She was 95.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 30, 2015, in the Mt. Zion Assembly of God Church with Dr. Charles Hughes and Reverend Neal Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland & Dothan. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Zion Assembly of God, c/o Billy Raley, P.O. Box 195, Midland City, AL 36350 or Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Road, Dothan, Alabama 36303.


            Mrs. Adkins was born and reared in Henry County, daughter of the late William Henry Raley and Annie Bell Cook Raley. She lived in the Wiggins Church community of Dale County most of her lifetime. A member of the Grimes RSVP, Mrs. Adkins was also an active member of the Mt. Zion Assembly of God Church for over 70 years where she taught Sunday School, participated in the Women’s Ministry and sang in the choir. She was a participant in the Multi-Community Senior Center in Midland City.


Mrs. Adkins was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She babysat children through the years in her home, caring for them as her own. She also helped care for grandchildren, playing a major role in their lives. Mrs. Adkins was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, Curtis L. Adkins, a daughter, Ellen Jeanette Adkins, a son-in-law, J. B. Oliver, two sisters and six brothers.


            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Virginia Oliver, and Jane Jenkins (Mickey), all of Dothan; a son, Ray Adkins (Jackie), Dothan; four grandchildren, Tara Adkins, Alicia Kidd (Tony), Justin Jenkins, and Weston Jenkins (fiance’, Katie), a great-grandson, Henry Curtis Kidd; a sister, Mattie Hall, Marianna; a brother, Henry Raley, Panama City, FL; a sister-in-law, Mable Raley; nieces and nephews.


The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Westside Terrace and Covenant Hospice for their loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Adkins during her stay.
