Virgil Marvin Skipper, 86, a resident of Midland City, passed away Sunday January 30, 2022, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2pm Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Benny Cole and Dr. Dennis Tew officiating. Burial will follow in Midland City Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1pm- 2pm in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Midland City Baptist Church.
Virgil was born on April 28, 1935 in Dale County, Alabama and lived in Midland City most of his life. In 1953, he graduated from Midland City High School where he was a star athlete. He was employed at Fort Rucker with the aircraft maintenance contractors as an avionics instructor at the Test Center for over 40 years until his retirement in 2003. Virgil served on the Midland City Town Council for several terms and then was elected mayor for two terms. He loved the outdoors especially Lake Eufaula where he enjoyed fishing and boating.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Virgil Marvin “Marty” Skipper, Jr; and his daughter, Henri Jalane Skipper.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Capshaw Skipper; his grandchildren, Taylor Scott and Shelley Scott; his step-daughter, Tamara Dee Donnell; and his sister, Sylvia Hutto.
Visitation will be 1 – 2 PM, Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Midland City Cemetery.
