DOTHAN. . .Virgil Nelson Walker, a resident of Dothan, died Wednesday afternoon, April 20, 2022, at the home of a daughter. He was 95.


Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 23, 2022, in the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Blue Springs, with Pastor Doug MacCormack officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside service and also at the family residence,  778 Harrison Road, Dothan, Saturday afternoon.


 Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Enhabit Hospice (Encompass), 3379 West Main Street, Suite 1, Dothan, AL 36305.


Mr. Walker was born and reared in Blue Springs, son of the late Thomas Walton Walker and Ludie Davis Walker. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He lived in Dothan most of his adult lifetime. Mr. Walker was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church. He was retired from Meadow Gold Ice Cream as a Refrigeration Mechanic after thirty-five years employment. Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia Mae Childree Walker and all his sisters and brothers.


Surviving relatives include three daughters, Kathy Starling, Carol Tedder (Billy), all of Dothan; and Tressie Trammell (Danny Paul), Cottonwood; two sons, Kevin Walker (Nina), Dothan; and Thomas Walker (Tonya), Ashford; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.


Serving as active pallbearers will be Billy Tedder, Danny Trammell, Jacob Tedder, Ernie Brionez, Sherman Tedder and Payton Bryan.


The family would like to express their appreciation to caretakers which include Mr. Walker’s daughters, Kathy Starling, Carol Tedder and Tressie Trammell,  granddaughters, Sabrina Tingle and Danielle Brionez, and to Encompass Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Walker during his illness.
