Virginia Davis passed from her earthly home on April 3rd, 2016, due to complications with COPD and pneumonia. She was 89. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Geneva. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, April 11, 2016, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
She was born Virginia Anderson on January 14, 1927 in Alabama. The Davis family came to Alaska in the 1960’s where Virginia resided until her death. She worked for JC Penny for over 25 years, retiring from there in the mid 1990’s. She enjoyed her retirement and loved to read, sew and do crafts. She was a very talented seamstress. In recent years physical issues prevented her from doing her favorite hobby. However, she instilled that love of sewing on her daughter-in-law, Sue, and was always there for her with ideas and encouragement. She enjoyed her regular walks at the Dimond Fred Meyers and a good cup of Starbucks or McDonald’s coffee with her dearest friend Lawanda. She was a generous person and loved her family.
She leaves behind sons Virgle Davis (Sue) Anchorage, AK and Jeff Davis, Texas; daughter Ann Wells (Tom) of Purcelville, VA, a sister, Betty Sikes, Florida; sister-in-law Dot Anderson, nine grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, along many nieces and nephews all of whom she loved dearly.
Virgle and Ann have dogs of which Virginia would jokingly call them her grand-dogs. Virginia lived with Virgle & Sue and was fond their 3 dogs Pixie, Liberty & Kruz. Pixie was her favorite and the two of them enjoyed the early morning hours of the day with Virginia sharing part of her breakfast, always saving a piece of bacon for her Pixie.
She was preceded in death by her father John Anderson and her mother Mary Vergie Boyd Anderson Folsom, her sisters Ruby Souza; Johnnie Brazel; Hortence Minshew; Mary Strickland; Margaret Newman; Catherine Turner, Bessie Sconiers; brothers Cecil Anderson and Fred Nichols, and her grandson David Swearingen.
