Virginia Norton Hayes, a resident of the Screamer Community of Henry County, died Tuesday afternoon, August 25, 2015, at her home. She was 63.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 28, 2015, in the Judson Baptist Church with Reverend Brandon Turner and Reverend Gerald Ross officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Friday in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
Mrs. Hayes was born and reared in the Screamer Community of Henry County. She lived in Ft. Gaines before returning to Henry County in 1988. Mrs. Hayes received an Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Wallace Community College-Sparks Campus and was formerly employed by WestPoint Stevens in Abbeville. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her father, William Russell Norton, her mother, Mary Watford Woodham, and a her step-father, Charles David Woodham.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Michael Hayes, Abbeville; three sons, Michael D. Hayes (Lorena), Bremerton, WA; David G. Hayes, Abbeville; and Michael Simmons, Midland City; two sisters, Carol Robinson (Tony), Dothan; Marie Smothers (Wayne), Abbeville; two brothers, Rusty Norton (Jean), Abbeville; and Roy A. Norton (Shirley), Ashford; two grandchildren, Chesa Hayes and Mykhael Hayes.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Michael Spann, Russell Fulton, Tommy Lynn, Kenny Bailey, Russell Bailey and Steven Norton.
