HEADLAND. . .Virginia Skipper Phillips, a resident of Headland, died Sunday night, July 16, 2023, in Westside Terrace in Dothan. She was 100.

            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 19, 2023, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Matthew Mobley officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grimes Methodist Church, 404 Parramore Road, Dothan, AL. 36303.

            Mrs. Phillips was born in the Asbury Community of Dale County, daughter of the late William M. Skipper and Eddie Johnson Skipper. She was a 1940 graduate of Midland City High School and attended Campbell Business College in Dothan. Mrs. Phillips lived near Headland all of her adult lifetime. She was an active member of Grimes Methodist Church. She formerly served as Treasurer of the Dothan District, United Methodist Women. Mrs. Phillips was a former member of the Lucy Hathaway Cornerstone Prayer Group. She was preceded in death by her husband, Murray Phillips, a sister, Mildred Walker and a former son-in-law, Hart Powers.

            Surviving relatives include two sons, George Phillips (Eleanor), and Don Phillips (Kay), two daughters, Linda Phillips Brown (Roger) and Kay Phillips Gamble (Jim), all of Headland; grandchildren, Eric Phillips (Margaret), Bill Phillips (Lynn), Matthew Phillips (Brook), Mark Phillips (Lauren), Daniel Powers (Ashley), David Gamble, Melissa Williams (Sam), Todd Brown (Julie) and Melissa Eagerton (Phillip); seventeen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  

Serving as active pallbearers will be the grandsons.

            The family would like to express their appreciation to the staffs of Wiregrass HomeCare, especially Carol Poslie, Snow Ann Fluellen, Crystal Shiver and Eyvonnia Pew, Westside Terrace and Covenant Care Hospice for their loving care.
