Virginia Sue Godwin, 80, a resident of Dothan, AL went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at her home after an extended illness with her family at her side.
Funeral services will be 2:30 pm on Saturday, March 2, 2019 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Goldsmith officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home directing. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 1:30-2:30.
Mrs. Godwin was born August 16, 1938 in Dale County to the late Julius Gaston and Era Parmer. She attended Midland City High School. Mrs. Godwin was employed as the deli manager at Stephenson Smith IGA and later at Globe Motors before her retirement. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all. Mrs. Godwin was an active attending member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church prior to her progressive health issues.
Mrs. Godwin was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jerry Franklin Godwin; one brother, Julius Mitchell Parmer; a sister, Tiny Valeta Walding; and a grandson, Kevin Dewayne Godwin.
Survivors include a son, Terry (Jill) Godwin; a daughter, Tammi (Phillip) Smith; three grandsons, Jonathon Blake Joiner, Kyle Logan Godwin and David McSween; five granddaughters, Carla Smith, Natalie Joiner, Hannah Graves, Rhonda McSween and Ranah McSween; four great-granddaughters, Lindsey Godwin, Summer Smith, Addison Joiner and Sophie Wilcox; a great-grandson, Landon Scannell; one brother, Jerry (Kay) Parmer; several nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Stacey Parmer.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jonathon Blake Joiner, Kyle Logan Godwin, Jeremy Godwin, Daniel Scannell, Derek Price and James Faulk.
We would like to express sincere appreciation for the kindness given to our parents by their personal caregivers, Ms. Francis Burton, Mrs. Pamela Jones and Ms. Suzie Daniels and the Kindred Hospice Staff.
