Virginia Sue Shaw
Virginia Sue Shaw of Ozark, AL, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Bay Medical Center in Panama City, FL. She was 88 years of age.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2015 at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Billy Gaither officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. The Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Shaw was born July 21, 1926 in Lake City, TN, to Hubert Vern and Rose L. Thompson. She started working at Oak Ridge, TN during World War II. During that time she met her husband Sam Shaw and began her new life as an Army wife. After many tours in Germany and stateside, Mrs. Shaw and her husband decided to make Ozark their retirement city.
During her stay in Ozark, Mrs. Shaw held many offices in Real Estate, Ozark Service League, Pilot Club of Ozark, Ozark Country Club, Maude Martin Study Club, Alabama Federation of Women’s Clubs, Pilot International, Ozark Literary Club, Dale County Auxiliary, Ladies Golf Association, Dale County American Cancer Society, Dale County Heart Fund, Dale County Association for Abused Wives, Ozark Antique Association, and Friends of the Library.
Sue will be sorely missed by all that knew her. She would want you to remember her contagious smile, her fun loving wit, and caring deeds and words. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ozark.
Mrs. Shaw was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Geneva Thompson.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Samuel N. Shaw; her daughter, Karen Morales (Mark); grandchildren, Shawn G. Beer, Mark E. Beer, Sabrina N. Burton, and Margaret Rose Shaw; great grandchildren, Avelyn Beer, Angelina Beer, and Faith Copeland; as well as several nieces and nephews.
