DOTHAN. . .Virgle Hagler, a resident of Dothan, died early Monday morning, February 22, 2021, at his home. He was 89.


   Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 24, 2021, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Jerry Smith and Chaplain Allen Monarch officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the Holman Mortuary Facebook page. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the mortuary in Headland. Social distancing guidelines and masks will be observed.


   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Eastside Free Will Baptist Church, 1679 E. Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301 or to DaySpring Hospice, 1275 James Drive, Suite A, Enterprise, Al 36330.


   Mr. Hagler was born in Barbour County and moved with his family to Kinsey as a young adult. He was the son of the late Willie B. Hagler and Mattie Lou Moates Hagler. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War era. Mr. Hagler lived in Dothan all his adult lifetime. He was a member of the Eastside Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Hagler was retired from the M. O. Carroll-Newton Grocery Company as a Salesman. After retirement, he was employed by the State of Alabama as an Inspector at Golden Peanut Company in Headland. His favorite pastime was fishing on Lake Seminole with the “best catch of his life, Gladys.” Mr. Hagler was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Adams Hagler, four sisters, Mary Williams, Carolyn Doswell, Betty Hall and Martha Murrell, a brother, Vinson Hagler, two nieces, Roxie Moore Ellenburg and Donna Murrell Bauernschub and a nephew, Dewayne Murrell.


   Surviving relatives include a sister, Nell Hagler Moore, a brother-in-law, Charles Hall, both of Kinsey; nieces and nephews, Diane Williams, Annie Lou Williams, Carol Doswell, Sharon Elliott (Braxton), Durwood Doswell (Sharon), Leah Childree (Jesse), Lisa Towns, Norman Hagler (Kendra), Todd Moore (Wanda), and Shanda McKissack (Eric); several great-nieces and great-nephews.


   Serving as active pallbearers Braxton Elliott, Jesse Childree, Norman Hagler, Eric McKissack, Caleb Towns and Matthew Towns.
