Wade Levon Lewis, Sr. of Dothan passed away at his residence on Saturday, February 22, 2014. He was 79.


 


Born August 23, 1934 in Houston County to the late Charlie and Beulah Lewis. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Leonard Varnum, and his son, Steve Lewis.


 


Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife of 52 years, Glenda Lewis of Dothan, his daughter, Melissa Kirkland (Ricky) of Dothan, sons, Wade L. Lewis, Jr. (Alisha) of Geneva, Jason Lewis of Dothan, and Mike Lewis of Mobile, his sisters, Vassie Benefield of Dothan, and Linda Freeman (Don) of Dothan, his brothers, Thaxton Lewis of Dothan, and Rex Lewis (Peggy) of Pinkard, and his 11 grandchildren who he loved more than life itself.


 


Mr. Lewis loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church for over 40 years and  was a member of the Foy Strickland Sunday School Class. Two of his great interest included golfing, and fishing. He loved his time socializing at Ray’s Restaurant at the “Table of Knowledge”. He was self-employed for over 54 years at Dothan Floor Covering and even sponsored his own softball team called the “Dothan Floor Softball Team” where they won many state championships. He was one of the initial inductees of the Wiregrass Softball Hall of Fame. He was an avid Alabama fan and he also was one of the five members of the group called the “Tide 5”.


 


Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, February 25, 2014 from the Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Brother Sam Totten and Brother Billy Rich officiating and burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 PM until 8 PM Monday, February 24, 2014.


 


Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Foy Strickland Sunday School Class and the Dothan Floor Softball Team. The family wishes to thank AlaCare Hospice.


 


The family will be accepting flowers.
