Wallace H.” Hambone” Howell of Chancellor, Alabama passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023. He was 85.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2023 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva. Burial will follow in the Howell Family Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, June 14 from 1 p.m. until service time.
Wallace was born July 19, 1937, in Bellwood, AL to the late James Austin and Essie V. Newsome Howell. He was a loving father and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family. He had a passion for gardening, cattle farming and raising quail, which he did for over 35 years. He never missed an opportunity to visit his friends and neighbors, while taking his dog for a ride around the block.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Teresa Howell; five brothers, Coy Berl, James Oscar, Charles J., Billy Wayne, and Jack Earl Howell and three sisters, Grace Sanders, Mary Frank Grace and Jimmy Lou Pippins.
Survivors include a daughter, Sherll Mathews (Michael) of Chancellor, AL; four grandchildren: David Mathews, Steven Mathews, Brandi Mathews, Reagan Mathews Smith (Matt); five great-grandchildren: Ivie Mathews, Ivan and Austin Wood, Hadley and Emersyn Smith; one great great grandchild, Laken Jordan; one sister, Ann Hatcher of Tallahassee, FL; mother of his daughter, Sandra Clemmons; sisters-in-law, Rena Howell Grantham, Sara Howell and Nellie Howell; a number of special nieces and nephews and special caregiver, Jeffrey Fuller and a special “Thank You” to Gentiva Hospice for your devoted love and care.
