Walter Rushin, a resident of Midland City, AL, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2019. He was 95.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 30, 2019 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Ray Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in Midland City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 am on Monday at the funeral home.
Walter was born on September 30, 1924 in Atlanta, GA and lived there the early years of his life. He graduated from Boy’s High School in 1943 and later the University of Georgia in 1947 where he received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Walter worked as a chemist in Cedar Town, GA, he worked with NOPCO Chemical Company, Cedar Town Textiles, and Commercial Solvents before moving to San Francisco, CA. It was there he met and married his wife, Gayle Rushin in 1960. Together they moved to New Orleans, LA in 1965 and finally to Midland City, AL in 1993. Walter was very independent and took care of himself up into his 90’s. He was a member of Midland City Methodist Church and was on the administrative board for the church.
Survivors include his sons, James Allen Rushin and wife Shelley, of Midland City, AL and William Craig Rushin and Ellen of Prairieville, LA; his 8 grandchildren, Kimberly, Alicia and her husband Ryan Bermudez, Sarah and her husband Michael Clark, Krista, Bethany, Malachi, Joshua, and Breanne; his great grandchildren, Bryan and Ellis Rushin and Charlotte and Evelyn Bermudez.
