Wamon Daniel Faulk


Wamon Daniel Faulk died peacefully Wednesday, February 15, 2012 in his home at The Terrace at Grove Park. He was 92 years old.


The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Dothan with Dr. Johnny Fain and Rev. Bob Gross officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will be receiving friends Saturday in the parlor at First Baptist Church beginning at 12:30.  At other times the family will be at the home of his son, Roger, at 136 Lilac Lane in Grove Park.


The family requests donations be made to The Dothan Rescue Mission, Wiregrass Hope Group or the charity of your choice.


Mr. Faulk was born March 23, 1919 in the Wicksburg community, the son of John and Linnie Faulk. He lived there until his marriage to  Lilla Sorrells.  They were married in a double wedding ceremony with their lifelong friends, Bill Reeves and Annie Laura Collins and celebrated their 70th anniversary last August.  He was on Wicksburg's first football team and his girlfriend at the time, Lilla, was on the basketball team. Mr. Faulk retired in 1982 after more than 30 years of work with The Dothan Eagle and U.S. Post Office where he was a rural mail carrier. He worked both jobs his whole career.  Mr. Faulk spent his retirement years volunteering in the benevolent area for First Baptist Church where he was a deacon and served in many areas of the church over his more than 70 years of faithful membership.


One of his great loves was the fraternal insurance society, United Commercial Travelers (UCT). He served as the local secretary of UCT for many years and also as the state director. He was elected to the national Board of Directors in 1986. Mr.  Faulk served in many service organizations. He was on the Board of The Dothan Rescue Mission and the Wiregrass Federal Credit Union.


He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elmira Searcy and Bernice Rice and three brothers, John Bryant, Jr., Onie, and Moody. 


He is survived by his loving and faithful wife, Lilla Sorrells Faulk of Dothan; his son, Daniel and his wife, Susan of Atlanta, GA and their three daughters, Jeannie Roberts and husband, Jim of Murfreesboro, TN and their children, Sidney and Madeline; Marie Thomas and husband, Brian of Atlanta, GA and their children, Anna and Will; and Leigh Cummings and husband, John of Atlanta, GA, his son, Roger and wife Harriet of Dothan, and their three children, Kyle of Dothan, Grant and his wife, Elizabeth and their daughter Laura of Dothan; Amanda McGuffey and her husband, Mitch of New York City and their daughter May; a  niece who is like a daughter, Lenora Johnson and husband, Wayne of Andalusia and their three children, Suzanne of Loxley, Ken and  son Campbell of Andalusia, and Brooks of Tallahassee; a brother, Bill Faulk and wife Daisy, and a sister-in- law Jean, wife of his brother Moody and many nieces and nephews who he loved very much.


He is survived by Lilla's sister Lorria, brother Fonzi and wife Ruby, and sister-in-law Clenna. He was preceded in death by Lilla's brothers, Johnny, Willis, Buford, Oneal and Joseph and her sisters Blondell, Voncie, and Edith. He is also survived by many of Lilla's nieces and nephews who he thought of like his own.


A special thanks to Rosemary, Debra, and numerous other caregivers of Home Instead, the staff of The Terrace at Grove Park and the staff of Southern Care Hospice for your loving and compassionate care. Also a special thanks to the staff of Waffle House on Highway 84 and the staff of The Blue Plate where Mr. and Mrs. Faulk ate many meals.
