Mrs. Wanda Ivey, 89, of Dothan, Alabama, returned home to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 22, 2013.
She was born in Dale County, Alabama on January 22, 1924. She graduated from Dale County High School. She was married to Carl Ivey of Graceville, Florida for 34 years.
Wanda retired from General Telephone Company as a Warehouse Manager in 1974 after many years of service. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Guided by her faith, Wanda’s life’s work was her family. After raising her two daughters as a single mother, she helped to raise her daughter’s girls after their mother’s untimely death. She was her mother’s caretaker in her home for many faithful years. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and leaves a legacy behind of selfless sacrifice and enduring faith. She enjoyed reading and genealogy and was always a genuine example to her family and friends of how to treat others.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl, daughter Carol (Cook) McCarty, and her parents James Robert James and Lola (Blackmon) Stubbs.
She is survived by her daughter Denise (Tom) Louthain, sister Jimmie Skipper, grandchildren Britt McCarty, Stacey (Sean) Magonigal, and great grandchildren Jordan Blair, Tanner Grantham, Sydney, Sage, Saxton, and Stella Magonigal.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 25 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Dothan. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Bishop Rod Cain will be officiating.
