Wanda Loretta Reid

Wanda Loretta Reid, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away on August 13, 2024, after an extended illness. She was 98 years old. Born in the humble beginnings of Lawton, Oklahoma, on March 12, 1926, Wanda's life was a testament to her enduring spirit and caring nature.

Wanda spent her earliest years in Oklahoma, growing up during the challenging times of the Great Depression. Her resilience was evident from a young age, as she left school at fifteen to help her mother, Vera Ritter, raise her siblings. Always putting the family first, she got a job as a telephone operator to bring money into the household.

Wanda was married to Major Wallace Reid for 30 years where she was privileged to support the armed services and travel overseas to England, Germany, and France before settling in Dothan for the last 60 years. Here, she established a life marked by dedication and service. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, she touched many lives at Southeast Health Medical Center before continuing to provide care and comfort at Wesley Way for a decade. Her work was not just a job but a calling, as she brought light and warmth to all those she aided.

Family was the cornerstone of Wanda's world. She is survived by her loving daughter, Stephanie Noble, and her brother, Larry Fanning, along with a cherished circle of nephews. Wanda was a pillar of strength and love, setting a perfect example of motherhood and kinship. Her son, Gregory Reid, and her mother, Vera Ritter, preceded her in death, and it is with great comfort to know they are reunited once more.

Beyond her professional and family life, Wanda was a devoted member of Harvest Church in Dothan. Her faith was a source of unwavering strength and guided her through the many seasons of her life. She was an honest person, whose integrity and spirited nature were admired by all who knew her.

Wanda's interests reflected her joyful approach to life. She had a fondness for the television show "Everybody Loves Raymond," which mirrored her own sense of humor and appreciation for the quirks of family life. Her laughter and love of storytelling will be remembered by friends and family alike.

Those who knew Wanda would describe her as loving, selfless, and spirited. She gave freely of herself to others, embodying the true essence of selflessness. Her loving nature was a comfort to her family, a blessing to her friends, and a gift to the many she cared for throughout her nursing career.
