It is with profound respect and admiration that we honor the life of Wanda S. Collins, a woman of extraordinary strength, generosity, and courage. Born on February 8, 1927, in Headland, Alabama, to the late William Rufus and Mettie Wright Jordan, Wanda was an embodiment of resilience and tenacity. She departed from us peacefully on July 22, 2023, in Dothan, AL, leaving behind a legacy of love, selflessness and faith.

Wanda's journey was one of remarkable determination, beginning with her humble beginnings in Headland. She was a proud descendant of the Cherokee Indian community, a fact that she cherished deeply. Wanda's commitment to education led her to graduate from Houston County High School, a testament to her unwavering dedication to personal growth.

In her early years, Wanda worked at the Hosiery Mill in Dothan. Her life took an adventurous turn when she met and married Forrest Kenneth Collins, a man of equal strength and ambition. Kenneth served in the Air Force and later joined the NASA Program, leading them on a journey across the United States. Despite their travels, Wanda and Kenneth always found their way back to Dothan, where they chose to raise their loving family.

Wanda was an exceptional homemaker, pouring her love into every meal she cooked and every stitch she sewed. Her hands were rarely still, often seen shuffling cards for a game of Rook, Dominoes Mexican Train, or Rumie Cube. Wanda's home was a haven of warmth, laughter, and love, a testament to her generous spirit.

Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life. As a faithful member of Cloverdale Baptist Church in Dothan, AL, Wanda was a beacon of hope and resilience. Her unwavering belief in the power of faith, her selfless acts of service, and her courage in the face of adversity were inspiring to all who knew her.

Wanda was a beloved matriarch, leaving behind a family that was her pride and joy. She is survived by her sons, David (Beth) Collins and Dwight (Lorain) Collins, and her daughter, Linda Dianne Collins. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth, and her daughter, Deborah Lynn Holland. Wanda’s love extended to her twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. She is also survived by her sister, Grace, and by her nieces, nephews, and friends, who loved and adored her very much. Wanda was preceded in death by her sisters, Louise, Jean, Bonnie, and Shirley with whom she shared a bond of love and respect.

A celebration of Wanda’s life will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Victory Family Church with Pastor Jason Duren officiating. Wanda will be laid to rest next to her loving husband in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
