            The life of Mr. Wayman Jones will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 in Cuthbert, Georgia, at Lunsford Funeral Home, 54 Court Street with Visitation Hour beginning at 2pm, EDT with a celebration of his life at 3pm in the same location. A graveside service will follow at Eastview Cemetery, Cemetery Street in Cuthbert.


 


            Mr. Jones was born in Guin, Alabama on December 5, 1927. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer Donahue Jones and Erma Dell Burgess Jones of Pickens County, Alabama. He graduated from Pickens County High School in Reform, Alabama in 1946. The Jones family (his parents, Wayman, and two sisters) moved to Cuthbert that same year. Mr. Jones served in the United States Air Force after high school until 1952. He held the rank of Staff Sergeant at a young age. After service in the Air Force, Mr. Jones worked in Cuthbert at Pataula Electric Company (later R.E.A.). Following the years at Pataula Electric/R.E.A., he worked for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in Cuthbert, Georgia. He married Cara Sue Milner of Cuthbert in 1959; they were married 10 years and had two children. Mr. Jones is survived by his sister, Margaret Jones Lash of Athens, Georgia; son, Wayman Donahue Jones, Jr., of Homestead, Florida; daughter, Connie Susan Jones Neville (William V. Neville III) of St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands; grandchildren, Elizabeth Leigh Neville Taylor (Boyd Whigham Taylor) of Winter Park, Florida; Benjamin Donahue Jones of Valley, Alabama; William V. Neville IV of New York, New York; and Lindsay Suzanne Jones of Valley, Alabama. His sister, Dorothy D. Jones Quinn (Peter) of San Bernadino, California, preceded him in death. Mr. Jones has three nieces and a nephew: Sharon Quinn Powell (Virginia), Corinthe Quinn Freeman (California), John Timothy Lash (Georgia), and Valerie Lash Fleming (Connecticut).


 


            Wayman Jones loved his family and traveled the country to visit them over the years. He had a great sense of humor and a zest for life that made him a person who never met a stranger. He enjoyed laughing and making others laugh, always cracking a joke and a smile. His hobbies included collecting cameras, amateur photography, Auburn Tigers Football, citizens band radios, electronics, clocks, stereos/music, and his many beloved pets. He was an award-winning gardener. He was a devout Christian and attended the Cuthbert Church of Christ for many years and Damascus Baptist Church later in life. Mr. Jones lived happily and actively at the Gardens of Eufaula assisted living for five years. He most recently lived in his daughter and son-in-law’s home in Eufaula where he passed away peacefully, on April 17, 2019, at the age of 91.
