Mr. Waymon Childs of Geneva, AL passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016 at his home. He was 67.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2016 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Mashburn officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Geneva with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, May 16, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8: 00 p.m.
Waymon was born in Geneva County, AL on February 13, 1949 to the late James Levie and Dora Smith Childs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ferrell, Wade, Bill, and Royce Childs. Mr. Childs was a Geneva High School Class of 1967 graduate and also a 1979 Montgomery Police Academy graduate. He worked with the Geneva Police Department and also the Geneva County Sheriff’s Department. Waymon proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. He was a loving husband, Daddy, Papa, brother and uncle. Waymon loved fishing and hunting, but the true joy of his life was his two grandchildren, Alaina and Jaxon. Waymon had a heart of gold and was always willing to help anyone. He faithfully attended Poplar Head United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Pat Childs of Geneva, AL; one daughter, Tammy Bailey and husband Dennis of Slocomb, AL; two grandchildren, Alaina and Jaxon Bailey of Slocomb, AL; one sister, Joyce Yeomans and husband Johnny of Hartford, AL; sister-in-law’s, Louise Childs, Emma Jean Childs, Ann Childs, Sue Locklear, Margaret Hamilton and husband Russ, and Margie Harrison; one brother-in-law, Billy Thomas and wife Ethel ; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
