WAYNE RILEY ANDREWS

Wayne Riley Andrews of 385 Mill Creek Rd Abbeville, Alabama, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, August 19, 2023. Born Jan 19, 1951 to Z.R. Andrews and Johnnie Lee Andrews. An Alabama native, Wayne enjoyed hunting, golfing, and fishing on Lake Eufaula. He could be found on fall afternoons in his "Man Cave" watching his Alabama Crimson Tide play football-"Roll Tide". As a Reluctant "shoe shine boy" in his daddy’s barbershop (Andy’s), Wayne decided quickly to grow his hair long and join a rock & roll band. Norman Andrews and the Concrete Bubble, Mitch Goodson and the Capers were two of the bands where he developed his love for drums and his beautiful tenor voice. Years later, that voice would bless the hearts of his church families at both Bethlehem Baptist Church in Dothan and later at Parkview Baptist Church in Eufaula.

Ironically, Wayne spent his last thirty plus years dispensing haircuts, wisdom, and humor while sharing his strong faith from his chair at Wayne’s Barber Shop. Lifelong friendships, family connections, and true Christian fellowship were shared with all who came through his door. This was made evident by the continued stream of friends who have called and visited these last few weeks to share their love, prayers, and best wishes.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Andy Wayne Andrews.

Survivors include his wife of forty-seven years, Rhonda G. Andrews; his sister, Linda Hubbard; brother, Donald Andrews (Dorcas); granddaughter, Andie Lee Stokes. Extended family, Keely, Abby, and Brody Stokes. Sisters-in-law, Frankie Henslee; Penny Dockery (Chuck); Jennifer Horne (Jay); along with numerous special nieces and nephews. Work family, Carla Smith, Tasha Hardy, and Leah Bond.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 21, 2023 at 4:00 P.M. in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home Crematory in Headland, Alabama, with Reverend Glenn Brock and Reverend Herman Parker officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. prior to the service. A private family burial will be held at Memory Hill Cemetery at a later time with Brother Joey Hudspeth officiating. Wright Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Thank you to Gentiva Hospice, Nurse Angie, and special thanks to Paul Newman Coffee along with Little Debbie Oatmeal Pies who put the joy in Wayne’s mornings for nearly forty years!
