HEADLAND…Wayne Stephen Austin, a resident of Headland, passed away late Thursday evening, February 18, 2021, in a Dothan hospital. He was 77.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be held at 11:30 (EST) Wednesday, February 24, 2021, in the Florida National Cemetery, in Bushnell, Florida, with Bishop John Mathews officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Social distancing and mask guidelines will be observed. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Austin was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan, son of the late Grayson Stephen Austin and Ruby Harrison Austin. He served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Austin lived most of his in the Eustis and Leesburg areas in Florida and later moved to Headland in 2016. He was a member of the Church of Latter-Day Saints and was a former member of the Leesburg Jaycees. Mr. Austin was formerly employed by Plaza Lincoln Dealership in Leesburg, FL and Scott’s Logistic in Ocala, FL, where he served in many positions such as Automotive Restoration and Salesman. He loved restoring cars, NASCAR, Florida State and Auburn University football and rescuing animals. Mr. Austin was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Austin, and five brothers and sisters.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 26 years, Ann Gandy Austin; a daughter, Sheri Austin, Leesburg, FL; a step-daughter, Melissa Fluharty, Headland; three sisters, Genevieve Parks, Patricia Smalt and Susan Cox; a sister-in-law, Carol Farrar (Leslie), Headland; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two special nieces, Leslyn Kroman and Deborah Smith; several nieces and nephews.
