Wayne VanLandingham, beloved husband and father, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. He was 66 years old.
Wayne was born on November 29, 1949 in Birmingham. He attended the University of Alabama and then enlisted in the Navy for six years and specialized in nuclear power. He met his wife, Patty Mickwee, in the spring of 1975 and they were married in December of 1975. They moved to Dothan, and he worked at Farley Nuclear Plant for 34 years where he was a supervisor in operations.
After his retirement, he joined the Alabama Master Gardeners Association and served on the board. Wayne participated in numerous church activities at St. Columba Catholic Church. He led Catholics Returning Home, was in the Cursillo school of leaders, headed the annual Light of the World Retreat program, participated in the Parish Evangelization Team, was Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist at St. Columba. He took Communion to the sick in the hospital every Wednesday. He was the chair of the Alabama Master Gardeners Association State Conference, to be held in Dothan in May. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, Alabama football, gardening and studying Catholicism.
Wayne was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle. He was preceded in death by his mother Ethel, father Elmer and brother Bill. His surviving relatives include his wife Patty, his daughter Laura Stakelum (Nick), son David, sister Sandra Roberts (Richard) and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Serving as active pallbearers are the Knights of Columbus.
Serving as pallbearers are members of the Knights of Columbus; Bernardo DeSaria, Matt Beard, Al Griggs, Steve Koscis, Bill Clements, and Tony Montoya.
