Wendell Craig Berry, known affectionately as Wendell, passed away on August 7, 2023, in his hometown of Dothan, Alabama. Born on October 23, 1958, in Houston County, Alabama, Wendell was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. His life was marked by a unique sense of humor, a loving nature, and a passion for the open road.
Wendell is survived by his devoted mother, Jewell Berry, his brother, Don Berry and wife Linda, and his sisters, Gail Monk (Jeff) and Sandy Roney (James). He was a cherished uncle to his nephews, Jared Monk and Joseph Berry, and his niece, Jessica Monk. Wendell was preceded in death by his father, Joe Berry, his uncle, Willie D. Lewis, his grandparents, Willie Harrison Lewis and Annie Lewis, and his aunts, Glenda McDaniel, Merlene Register, and Wilma Powell.
Wendell spent his professional life as a truck driver, working for Summerford, Flat Creek and Davis's. His work took him across the country, but his heart always remained in Alabama. He was a dedicated employee, known for his reliability and commitment to his job. His colleagues often spoke of his infectious laughter and the joy he brought to the workplace.
Outside of work, Wendell was a man of many interests. He had a particular fondness for motorcycles, a passion that was born in his youth and stayed with him throughout his life. He was often seen riding around town, the wind in his hair and a smile on his face. Wendell was also known for his unique sense of style, often described as "one of a kind." He was never afraid to stand out from the crowd and express his individuality.
Wendell had a special talent for making people laugh. He was often referred to as a "clown," not because of any silly antics, but because of his natural ability to bring joy and laughter to those around him.
