Wiley “Buddy” Whitaker age 98 of Graceville, Florida passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at
Graceville Health Center. Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 17, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Damascus Baptist Church in Graceville with Pastor Chester Padgett officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors.
Wiley was born February 8, 1925 in Holmes County Florida to James Dannard and Carrie Mae Holland Whitaker. He proudly served in the United States Army and retired after more than 20 years. He then worked for Civil Service at Lyster U.S. Army Community Hospital in Daleville AL for about 20 years. Wiley and Dorothy moved to Graceville when they were married in 1952. He was a member of the Daleville Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wiley was predeceased by his parents James Dannard and Carrie Mae Holland Whitaker; brothers William Harvey Whitaker, James Andrew Whitaker, Cecil Palm Whitaker, Jack Thomas Whitaker, Jim Hastie Whitaker, Roy Abraham Whitaker, Aubrey W. Whitaker, Alvin Lee Whitaker, Walter William Walsh, Lloyd Adell Whitaker; sisters, Myrtie Mae Tindell, Mary Malissie Vickers, Bertie Walsh Taylor, Clarcy Eulah Walsh, Amie Maybell Crain, Katie Melvina Hamilton, and a baby sister.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Evans Whitaker; son Dale Evan Whitaker (Eulene); daughter Diane Whitaker (Dennis Seymour); grandchildren Carman Whitaker (Jessica), Sydney Whitaker Wolford (Marcus), Revonda Michelle Seymour, Michael Shane Seymour; 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
