Wilfred "Bill" Thomas Bastien, a resident of Dothan, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Flowers Hospital following a brief illness. He was 77.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 11:00 am in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wiregrass 211 or Southeast Alabama Baptist Association Ministry Center.
Bill was born on February 13, 1945 in Geneva, Alabama to the late Wilfred Thomas Bastien, Sr. and Mary Grantham Bastien. He was a 1963 graduate of Dothan High School. After high school, he obtained a BS in Economics and Business Administration from Troy State University in 1967. Later, he attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas and received his Masters of Arts and Religious Education degree in 1981. Bill was employed with Western Auto from 1967 until 1979. He has pastored at several churches including First Baptist Church in Argyle, TX, First Baptist Church in Ozark, AL and Heritage Baptist Church in Dothan, AL. Bill was the manager of the Lifeway Campus Bookstore at Southwestern Seminary from 1981 until 2005. He loved cheering on the Troy Trojans, golf, fishing, woodworking and spending time with family and friends, especially cooking. Although Bill never had children of his own, he was blessed with two children and four grandchildren when he married Dianne after Carol passed away.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 51 years, Carol Bastien; his sister, Susan Holster; and his great-nephew, Braylon Maddox.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne Bastien; his children, Amanda Black (Troy, Joshua and Caleb) and Lee Welch (Suzanne, Annie and Weston); his brother, Mike (Tonja) Bastien; his sister, Anne (Charlie) Eddins; his niece, Elise (Patrick) Bastien; his special sister, Jean (John) Beasley; his special friends, Max (Sandra) Smith; and numerous cousins and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Lee Welch, Weston Welch, Troy Black, Ronnie Driskell, Max Smith and Delbert Phillips.
Bill was a wonderful Godly man who touched many lives and was loved by everyone he encountered. He will be greatly missed, but his love for Jesus will live on through all the lives he touched.
