            Will Sawyer passed away June 2, 2013 at the age of 93.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Bowden Sawyer, his parents, Wade Hampton and Willie Pearl Jones Sawyer, and a sister, Trelle Hogg Phillips.  He is survived by one sister, Hilda Andrews, one brother, John E. Sawyer (Eloise), one daughter, Suzanne Sawyer Carden (Emmett), one grandson, Wade E. Carden (Deborah), and two great grandchildren.


            Will was born in New Brockton, Alabama and graduated from New Brockton High School.  He attended the University of Alabama where he was a member of the Theta Tau Engineering Fraternity.  After two years of service, he returned to the niversity and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. 


            During World War II, Will served in the Army Air Corps.  He attended Officer Training at Yale University and served as a 1st Lt. Flight Engineer instructor on B-29’s.  Following the war and graduation from Alabama, he flew as a flight engineer, co-pilot and then captain with Eastern Air Lines.  After 31 years with Eastern, he retired to New Brockton where he enjoyed gardening and doing taxes with H&R Block.  After the death of his wife, Will moved to Fairhope to be near his daughter and family.  He was a member of Fairhope United Methodist Church and Retired Eastern Pilots Association.


            Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Thursday, June 6, 2013 at New Brockton Methodist Church with Rev. Danny Barfield officiating.  Burial will follow in the New Brockton City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Enterprise directing.  The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10 am continuing until service time.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the New Brockton Methodist Church, or the Will H. Sawyer Scholarship Fund at New Brockton High School in care of the New Brockton High School Alumni Association.
