SHORTERVILLE. . .Willa Maude Fortson Moody, a resident of Shorterville, died late Sunday morning, May 25, 2014, in a Dothan hospital. She was 88.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, in the Shorterville Cemetery with Reverend Ray S. Reiley and a grandson, John Scott officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the Shorterville Baptist Church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shorterville Cemetery Fund, c/o Rossie Money, 2457 County Road 91, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Mrs. Moody was a lifelong resident of Shorterville, daughter of the late John Gaines Fortson and Mattie White Fortson. She was a member of the Shorterville Baptist Church and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. Mrs. Moody was formerly employed by WestPoint Stevens as an inspector and the Shorterville Post Office as a clerk. She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Fleming Moody, and a brother, Raymond Fortson.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Kay Booth (Lee), Cairo, GA; a son, John Moody (Cheryl), Shorterville; a brother, Robert Fortson (Martha Sue), Shorterville; two grandchildren, John Scott (Pam), and Jay Nolin; two great-grandchildren, Austin Scott and Zach Scott; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Lee Fortson (Jennifer); a special great-niece, Evie Grace Fortson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Todd Nolin, Kevin Nolin, Jay Nolin, Davis Booth, Austin Scott and Zach Scott.
