Willa Rea Thornton, 83, a resident of Wesley Manor Nursing Home and formerly of 6888 Cottonwood Road, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013.


Mrs. Thornton was retired from the F.W. Woolworth Company after 34 years of service.


Visitation will be on Thursday, February 28, 2013, from 1 to 2 P.M. at Ward Wilson Funeral Home.


Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends John Smith and Jimmy Bolin officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.


Serving as pallbearers will be the grandchildren.


Mrs. Thornton was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, William Talmadge Thornton, parents, Emmett and Elsie Joiner, Dothan, AL, two brothers and two sisters.


Survivors include, son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Barbara Thornton, Ashford, AL; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Carolyn Thornton, Dothan, AL; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Ronnie Reardon, Cottonwood, AL; and daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Bill Swearengin, Dothan, AL; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, two sisters, Ella Ruth Benefield, Dothan, AL; Melba and Bill Capps, Dothan, AL; special sister-in-law, Gail Thornton, Dothan, AL; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of families.
