William “Bill” Millard Russell, Jr. of Hartford passed away Friday, February 22, 2013 in his home. He was 64
Memorial services will be held at 6:00 PM Friday, March 1, 2013 at Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Hartford with Rev. Bruce Spivey officiating and Jimmy Bottoms of Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home of Hartford directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made in memory of Bill Russell to Hartford Art and History Museum, 112 Main Street, Hartford, AL 36344.
Bill was born March 19, 1948 in Enterprise, AL to the late William Millard and Winifred Register Russell. He earned his Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Troy State University and he was a lifelong entrepreneur. Bill was a member of the 1968 National Championship Troy State University “Red Wave” Football Team. He loved golf, as a player and a teacher.
As quoted by a friend “Bill was a precious person and dear friend to so many people. You just had to love the man. You couldn’t just like him. He looked so good. He had a wit and kind words for life. Who will ever forget his use of the little word “grin”! For 48 years he was an icon in his community and celebrated life every day.” He also had “chat” friends all over the world and was known as “Poppaz.”
Survivors include his two daughters, Candice Russell (Noel) Dickerson of Stockbridge, GA, and L. Roxanne Russell (Adarsh Char) of Norcross, GA; four grandsons, R. Jacob Nation, Payton Dison, Tyler Dickerson, and Russell Char; one granddaughter, Jaya Char; one brother, Monte (Janetha) Russell; three sisters, Shirley (Mike) Holmes, Barbara (Billy Joe) Alberson, and Wendy Miller; several nieces and nephews.
