Mr. William “Bill” Sellers Gilmore of Samson, AL passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at his home. He was 89.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 16, 2017 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Sam Totten officiating. Burial will follow in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continue until service time.
The family request that flowers be omitted and that memorial contributions be made to the: First Baptist Church of Samson, 100 West Main Street, Samson, AL 36477.
Mr. Gilmore was born in Geneva County, AL on July 14, 1927 to the late Benjamin Jessie and Ola Elizabeth Sellers Gilmore. In his spare time, Mr. Gilmore loved to hunt, fish, and read. Mr. Bill proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII. He retired from the US Postal service after 32 years of dedicated service. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Gilmore; one son, Steve Gilmore; son-in-law, Danny Carmichael; three sisters, Lucille Messer, Lorene Williams, and Louise Worthington; one brother, B.J Gilmore.
He is survived by one daughter, Kay Gilmore Carmichael of Enterprise; one son, Hank Gilmore (Lori) of Samson; three grandchildren, Clay Phillips (Cassie) of Brandon, MS , Chase Gilmore (Karli) of Samson, and Lorin Gilmore of Samson; daughter-in-law, Alethea Gilmore of Alabaster, AL; two brothers, Roy Gilmore of Monticello, FL, and Jerry Gilmore (Sue) of Samson; several nieces and nephews.
