Date of Service: A celebration of his life will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chuck Nordstrom officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sunset Funeral Home on Monday evening from 5-7 pm.

William Bobby Adkinson, 65, a resident of Taylor, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at his residence.


A celebration of his life will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chuck Nordstrom officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sunset Funeral Home on Monday evening from 5-7 pm.


Bobby was born on November 12, 1954 in Henry County, Alabama. He worked for Southside Granite and Ingram Memorial during the 1970’s and 80’s. After that, he and Vanessa owned Adkinson Memorial from 1985-1990 until his kidney failure. Bobby received a renal transplant in 1992. From 1994-1996 he owned a Charles Chip franchise. Bobby loved working for the Dothan City School System from 1997-2013 at Girard Middle School where he was known as “Mr. Bobby” to all the students and his dance moves with his broom filled the halls of Girard with laughter. He was active with the Rehobeth Rec Baseball as an umpire, coach and vice-president. During the last eight years, Bobby aka “Marty” supported and ran the music for The Women of the Passion.


Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Adkinson; his mother, Irma Jewel Adkinson; his sister, Betty Hand; and his brothers, Pete and Dan Adkinson.


Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Vanessa Adkinson; his sons, Bruce (Jeanne Brock) Adkinson and Patrick (Jennifer) Adkinson; his grandchildren, Colby (Taylor) Adkinson, Carley and Caitlyn Adkinson and their mother, Debra Adkinson, Gracie Adkinson, Mary Morgan Adkinson, Pack Adkinson, Sophia Alligood and Faith Alligood; his brothers, Floyd Adkinson, Jimmy (Deborah) Adkinson, Robert (Debbie) Adkinson and Timmy (Rachel) Adkinson; his sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Peter) Adkinson and Barbara (Dan) Adkinson; special friends, Bob And Cindy Roth, Tom and Becky Hunt and Jim and Deborah; Bobby’s furry baby, Jake; his great-grandson, Houston Grey Adkinson who will make his appearance in April 2020; and his church family at Taylor United Methodist Church.
