Mr. Stuckey was born April 13, 1923 in Dale County, Alabama where he lived his first forty years in the Morgan community of his beloved Skipperville. After meeting Lucy, they were married in 1963 and remained together for almost fifty years. Upon marriage, Mr. Stuckey relocated from Dale County to the Wills Crossroads community in Henry County.
Mr. Stuckey was lovingly called “Pa” by almost all who knew him. He was truly a servant who loved his Lord and was known as someone with a good heart and who loved to serve without complaints. He was happiest when he could be doing something for someone else, whether it was his family, church family, friends or co-workers. Pa and Ma’s house for Sunday lunch was a treat everyone enjoyed to the fullest. Pa was always full of funny stories about Skipperville, there was no doubt that his heart was in both Henry and Dale County.
In his years at Old Zion Baptist, Mr. Stuckey was chosen to be a Deacon. As a trusted Deacon, he enjoyed his participation in the Lord’s Supper. He served as a Deacon until declining health and age limited his abilities. Even when he was no longer able to serve, he remained faithful to his church which he truly loved. Mr. Stuckey may have been slow moving at times, but as those who knew him well can attest, he always managed to be first in line for fellowship meals!
Mr. Stuckey worked as a heavy equipment operator for both Dale County and Henry County road departments. He was forced to retired in 1996 due to kidney cancer. Mr. Stuckey was always a hard worker, and even though he had to be at work by 7:00 A.M., he would often leave home by 4:00 A.M. to be sure he was on time. Pa always took pride in ensuring the roads in both Dale and Henry County were graded right.
Mr. Stuckey was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend to all. He will be greatly missed here, but a wonderful addition to God’s Kingdom. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Starling Strickland Stuckey, his daughter, Marcia Strickland Smith and his son-in-law, Ronnie Lynn Hix, his parents, Ralph Thadeus Stuckey and Pearl Hughes Stuckey, three sisters, Hattie Ruth Gassett, Peggy Kelley and Sue Stuckey, as well as his brother, Carnell Stuckey.
Surviving relatives include his daughter, Felicia Hix Hilyer (Joe), Abbeville; a son-in-law, Denver Smith, Smiths AL; his sister, Hazel Stuckey Trawick, Echo, AL; four grandchildren, Ronnie Hix (Melissa), Tony Hix (Melissa), Chris Lee (Erin), and Amy Irby (Brent); nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
