NEWVILLE. . .William Elton Adams, a resident of Newville, died early Thursday morning, July 6, 2017, at his home. He was 87.
Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday, July 7, 2017, in the Newville Baptist Church with Reverend Norman C. Simmons and Reverend Timothy Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Newville Baptist Church Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 P.M. Friday in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newville Baptist Church Building Fund or Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 13, Newville, AL 36353.
Mr. Adams was born July 28, 1929 in the Tumbleton Community, son of the late William Alexander “Buck” Adams and Hattie Belle Smith Adams. He attended the Tumbleton School and lived in Newville most of his lifetime. Mr. Adams was a member of the Newville Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was engaged in farming all his adult lifetime and harvested sixty-nine crops, He was selected Farmer of the Year in the 1980’s and won several other awards through the years. Mr. Adams was an excellent provider for his family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching football, going to gospel sings, playing the guitar and singing, especially singing “specials” at church. Mr. Adams was a giver to others and was always willing to help others in the community. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-eight years, Mary Elizabeth Bowen Adams, and two brothers, William Carlton Adams and Freddie Earl Adams.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Susan Adams “Suzy” Kitts (Roy), Newville; a son, Reverend Don Adams (Barbara), Newville; six grandchildren, John Adams (Holli), Donna McCoy (Dr. Chris), Thomas Adams (Farrah), LCPL (USMC), Colton Kitts, Cliff Kitts, and Carmen Kitts; six great-grandchildren, Anna Adams, Abigail Adams, Cason McCoy, Cailin McCoy, Elizabeth Adams, and Emery Adams; three sisters-in-law, Mae Bowen, Lora Woodham, and Clyde Mulkey; very special friends, Ronnie and Trina Skeen, and Catherine Patterson; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Thomas Adams, John Adams, Colton Kitts, Roy Kitts, Cason McCoy and Emery Adams.
The family would like to thank the caregivers, Catherine Patterson, Dorothy Pearson, and Adonnis Terry and also Community Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Adams during his illness.
