WILLIAM  EUGENE  BASS



HEADLAND. . .William Eugene (Daddy Butch) Bass, a resident of Headland, died unexpectedly early Thursday afternoon, May 8, 2014, in the emergency room of a Dothan hospital. He was 64.


            Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M. Saturday, May 10, 2014, in the Balkum Baptist Church with Reverend Tom Chestnut and Reverend Doug Shumate officiating. Burial will follow in the Balkum Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 P.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Youth and Children’s Programs of the Balkum Baptist Church, P.O. Box 193, Headland, AL 36345.


            Daddy Butch Bass was a lifelong resident of Headland, son of the late William Green (Bill) Bass and Betty Jean Sellers Bass. He was a 1967 graduate of Headland High School. Daddy Butch was retired, due to disability, from the Henry County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff. For most of his adult lifetime, he was involved in the breaking and training of Racking Horses. Daddy Butch also owned and operated a carriage and wagon service. He was a member of the Balkum Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Tim Bass.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Lanetha Ogburn Bass; two daughters, Chalice Tillis (Joey), Newville;  and Jori Shelley (Jamey), Headland; two sisters, Diane Killingsworth (Russell), Headland; and Marianne Jones (Roy), Monroe, NC; two brothers, Larry Bass, Providence, NC; and Tommy Bass (Jerri), Dothan; a sister-in-law, Terri Bass, Daleville; four grandchildren, Chase Turner (Deven), Cody Tillis, Hunter Shelley, and Stetson Tillis; five great-grandchildren, Lizzie and Landon Wise, Tripp and Ella Turner, and Cooper Turner; his mother-in-law, Imogene Ogburn, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Terry and Sherry Ogburn, Donna Dossett, Rhonda and Steve Peterson, Wanda and Steve Maxwell, Marty and Terri Ogburn; several nieces and nephews; and special canine friend, “Cass”.



            Serving as active pallbearers will be Will Maddox, Ricky Allen, Kraig Peterson, Steve Peterson, Chuck Jones, Mike Cox, Lawton Ed Armstrong, and George Lewis.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Earl Culpepper, William (Bill) Bailey, and Mac Carmichael.
