William G. Knowles of Samson, AL passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021.  He was 72 years old.


 A celebration of life service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1 p.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675 in his memory.


 William was born on April 20, 1949 in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Hollis and Iris Preachers Knowles. William retired from the Alabama National Guard after 28 years of service and two years of active military service. As he often referred to, William was proud to be a member of “The Band of Gypsies”. He served his country during Operation Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom.


He worked as a police officer with various local municipalities, as well as Geneva County Sheriff’s Department. He also was a deputy game warden on Ft. Rucker. William was an avid Alabama “Crimson Tide” fan and a Nascar Race enthusiast.


 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Bonita Bowers and three brothers, Eddie, Hollis Ray and Brian Knowles.


  


William is survived by three daughters, Deneice Knowles Tucker (Matthew) “Buford” of  Birmingham, Jeannie Knowles (Clay Carroll) of Chancellor, and Ashley Knowles Rider (Roderick) of Samson; eight grandchildren, T.J. Dean (Amanda), Mason Welsh, James “JC” Kirkland, Destiny Newell, Hunter Carroll, Everleigh, Gunner, and Sawyer Rider; two great-grandchildren, Hagen and Kantlee Dean; one brother, Edwin “Red” Knowles of Samson, one sister, Charlotte Driggers of Enterprise and a host of special nieces, nephews and close friends.
