William Harris Grimes died peacefully in his sleep Friday night, June 20, 2014 surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 11 am on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Southside Baptist Church at 423 Cottonwood Highway in Dothan, AL.  The family will receive friends from 10-11 am prior to the service.


Harris was born January 31, 1921 to William Steward Grimes and Ella Frances Grimes. He was one of nine siblings. He married the love of his life Mary Barley on December 24, 1943. He was a World War II veteran who proudly served in United States Army Air Corp participating in the Battle of the Bulge and the Berlin invasion. He owned his own business Dick & Grimes Auto Repair. Harris and Mary were active church members at Southside Baptist Church, attending the church for over 58 years. Harris loved to fish and watch Atlanta Braves baseball and Alabama football.


Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Mary; his sons, Charles; wife Lorreta, Mickey; wife Lana, David; wife Charlotte, Steve; wife Cindy. His siblings John (MJ) and Ruby. His grandchildren, Tracy Blanchard; husband Tony, Ashley Newton; husband Patrick, Christopher Grimes; wife Ginger, Alexander Grimes; wife Daniella, and Taylor Grimes. His great grandchildren Katherine, Bennett, Alyssa, Kendall, Harris and Griffin, and other special family members.


The family asks that instead of flowers that donations be made to the Grime’s longtime church home, Southside Baptist Church.
