WILLIAM HOWARD CLARK
MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA. . .William Howard (Bill) Clark, a resident of Montgomery, died early Wednesday evening, April 30, 2014, in the Baptist Medical Center East in Montgomery. He was 80.
Graveside services, with full military honors, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 3, 2014, in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Ryan Johnson officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Abbeville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
Mr. Clark was born and reared in Abbeville, son of the late Alex Bowden Clark, Sr. and Mary Brown Clark. He was a graduate of Abbeville High School. Mr. Clark enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in 1951and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. While serving in the Air Force, he received a degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland. He retired from the military in 1972 with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. After his retirement, Mr. Clark moved to Montgomery where he served as a Vice-President of Merrill Lynch. He was a member of the Thorington Road Baptist Church. Mr. Clark’s favorite pastime was spending time with his family and being “Papa” to his grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed watching football, and getting together with his poker buddies every Thursday night. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Clark Wallace, and a brother, Hunter B. Clark.
Surviving relatives include his wife of fifty-nine years, JoAnn Shiver Clark; a daughter, Debbie Clark Vann and husband, Sam Vann, III, Dothan; a son, Mike Clark, Montgomery; two grandchildren, Reese Vann (Kim), Dothan; and Brannon Vann (Fiancee’, Abby Gallagher), Atlanta; two great-grandchildren, Asher Vann and Piper Vann; two brothers, Alex B. Clark, Jr. (Ina), Abbeville; and James R. (Bobby) Clark (Rita), Abbeville; several nieces and nephews.
