WILLIAM  JAY  SIMPSON


ECHO COMMUNITY…William Jay (Bill) Simpson, a resident of the Echo Community in Dale County, died Thursday night, June 06, 2013, at his home. He was 60.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 09, 2013, in the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Frank Fagan and Dr. Carl Warden officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, c/o Jo Ann Ammons, 508 Co. Rd. 46, Midland City, AL 36350.


            Mr. Simpson was born in Wichita, Kansas, and was reared in Mooreland, Oklahoma, son of the late Jasper Frances Simpson and Thelma Irene Bolster Simpson. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era. Mr. Simpson was a graduate of Northwestern Oklahoma University with a degree in Criminal Justice and also attended numerous police schools in various parts of the country. He was formerly employed as a Deputy Sheriff, as Police Chief in Kiowa, Kansas, and as a police officer in Ozark, Newton, and Midland City. Mr. Simpson retired from the City of Napier Field as Police Chief. After retirement, he was employed part-time as a rural mail carrier in the Ozark Post Office. He was a member of the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by a sister, WyDean Wilson-Klestinez.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Lori Stevens Simpson; a son, William Alvie Simpson, both of Midland City; a sister Hazel Frances Simpson, Oklahoma City, OK; a niece, TraDena Wilson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rex and Glenda Stevens; a brother-in-law, Larry Stevens and wife, Darla; three sisters-in-law, Lisa Bentis, Lana Duncan, and Lynn Stevens.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be David Kochanski, Randy Outlaw, Mark Harris, Matthew Harris, Daniel Harris, and Joshua Harris.
