William Michael "Mike" Langford

A celebration of Mike's life will be held at 11 am on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Westgate Church of Christ with Ansley Whatley officiating. Friends and loved ones are invited to gather and share memories of Mike at the church from 10-11 am before the service.

William Michael "Mike" Langford, known for his boundless humor and kindhearted nature, passed away peacefully at his residence in Dothan, Alabama, on July 11, 2024. Born in Niagara Falls, New York, on May 26, 1953, Mike's early years were spent there with the warmth of a close-knit community.

Mike is lovingly remembered by his brother, Terry (Kathy) Langford; nephews, Ben (Kym) Langford and Jonathan (Leta) Langford; his second cousins, Debbie (Gary) Moore and Frank (Linda) Craddock, and his best friends, Sam and Pat King. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Arthur and Mary Inez Hill Langford, by his nephew, Adam Langford, and by his 2nd cousin, Jean Craddock Beasley, each of whom played a significant role in his life.

After a long and dedicated career with Montgomery Ward spanning over two decades, Mike transitioned to working at Ft. Novosel's security gate, where his warm greetings became a staple. His professional life was marked by a strong work ethic and an even stronger ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

Mike's infectious laughter and love for life were evident to all who knew him. He never met a stranger and always had a corny joke at the ready, ensuring that everyone he met left with a smile. His outgoing personality made him a cherished member of the Westgate Church of Christ, where he served and worshipped for many years. Mike's commitment to his faith community was profound, and his absence will be deeply felt.

An avid sports enthusiast, Mike found joy in playing on the Westgate Church of Christ softball team and coaching the women's team. His voice was a familiar one on local radio, where he delighted in announcing friends' birthdays, spreading cheer far and wide. Mike's love for a good meal was well-known, as was his ability to make any gathering a memorable one.

Described by many as funny, friendly, and kind, Mike left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered. As Mark Twain once said, "The best way to cheer yourself is to try to cheer someone else up." This quote embodied Mike's approach to life as he lifted the spirits of those around him with his humor and compassion.

William Michael "Mike" Langford will be missed dearly, but his legacy of laughter and love will continue to resonate within the community he held so dear. His was a life well-lived, full of joy, friendship, and an unwavering commitment to making others happy.
