ABBEVILLE. . .William Newton “Bill” Skelton, Jr., a resident of Abbeville, died late Thursday night, July 20, 2017, at his home. He was 85.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 24, 2017, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Thomas D. Gamble and Reverend Randy Adams officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Monday at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Care, 1512 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517.
Mr. Skelton was born and reared in Haleburg, Alabama, son of the late William Newton Skelton, Sr. and Mary Williams Skelton. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Skelton was a member of the Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church. He was employed as a carpenter in construction most of his lifetime. Mr. Skelton was preceded in death by two sons, William David Skelton and James Martin Skelton, and a sister, Frances Skelton Spann.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Judy Jackson Skelton; two daughters, Sandra Hanchey (Kent), Abbeville; and Janine Green (Billy), Clio; a son, William Bryan Skelton (Kari), Odenton, MD; a brother, Charlie Ray Skelton (Sue), Panama City Beach, FL; eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marsha Money (Ray), Sue Griffin (John), and Sherry Earle.
