William Owen Jones, Jr.
William Owen “Bill” Jones, Jr., (Major, US Army, Ret) of Ozark, died Tuesday morning, April 25, 2017 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 79.
Funeral services with Masonic Rites will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Sigler, Rev. Megan Kelley and Dr. Billy Gaither officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 5-7 on Thursday night.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Shriners Hospital.
Mr. Jones was born June 2, 1937 in Indiana and lived the early years of his life there. He was a retired U.S. Army Major and served as an aviator in the Vietnam War. After his military retirement, he was an instructor pilot at Ft. Rucker for fifteen years. He was a very loving and caring person. Mr. Jones was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Claybank Masonic Lodge #908.
He is predeceased by his parents, William Jones and Peggy Long and his brother, Chuck Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jones of Ozark; his children, Tammy Summers (John), William O. Jones, III (Glenda) and Timothy Jones (Melinda); grandchildren, Jostlyn Higgerson (Dylan), Trey Summers, Sarah Lewis (Wyatt), Haley Wine (Joshua), William O. Jones IV and Joshua Jones; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Sue Hull and a brother, Jack Jones.
Honorary pallbearers will be his Free Masonic Brothers.
