WILLIAM PERRY THOMAS, JR.
ASHFORD. . .William Perry Thomas, Jr., a resident of Ashford, died early Saturday morning, May 14, 2016, at his home. He was 88.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 16, 2016, in the Cedar Springs Baptist Church, near Ashford, with Reverend William Irwin and Reverend Don Tew officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Cedar Springs Baptist Church or the Cedar Springs Baptist Cemetery Fund c/o John W. King, 974 Jack Bruner Road, Ashford, AL 36312
Mr. Thomas was a lifelong resident of the Green Front community, near Webb, son of the late William Perry Thomas, Sr. and Ola King Thomas. He attended the Houston County High School in Columbia. Mr. Thomas was a member of the Cedar Springs Baptist Church, the Columbia Masonic Lodge and the Dothan Elks Lodge. He formerly served as Agricultural Chairman of the Houston County Peanut Festival, on the Board of Directors of Landmark Park and was a member and former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Houston County Farm Center. Mr. Thomas also served on the Houston County Port Authority, and the Board of Directors of Alfa and Farm Bureau in Houston County. He retired as the owner & operator of Rainbow Farm Center and formerly co-owned and co-operated Thomas & Hopkins Peanut Company in Ashford. Mr. Thomas was engaged in farming and agricultural businesses most of his adult lifetime. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Harpe Thomas, his son-in-law, John Joiner, and a brother, Wilson D. Thomas.
Surviving relatives include his daughter, Karen Thomas Joiner, Tallahassee, FL; a grandson, Charles Thomas Joiner; a special friend, Ann Knight, Ashford; nieces, Beverly Bush and Linda Gayle Tew, both of Panama City; a special cousin, Johnny King, and other cousins also survive.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Ashley Knight, Walter Rivers, Terry Hughes, Johnny King, Kenneth Bryan, George Ingalls and Tom Blisard. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Charles Hopkins, James Williams, Bill Coulson, Charles Calhoun, Dennis Ingalls and Ronald Devane.
